The State government has spent over Rs 41 crore on e-governance since 2015, IT Minister Jennifer Monserrate told the Assembly via a written reply on Wednesday. The reply was in answer to an unstarred question asked by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who asked for the project-wise details with the date of commencement, costs incurred and nature of services delivered in the last five years.

Of the 37 e-governance projects undertaken by the government, 20 are related to the development of websites/e-services of different government departments. These are small amounts running into thousands or sometimes a couple of lakhs of rupees.

However, of the total expenditure, the highest amount, i.e. an amount of over Rs 30 crore was spent in February 2016 for a request for proposal for the appointment of an agency for the design, supply, installation, configuration, operations, and maintenance of “IT infrastructure for hosting of websites, web applications.”

Monserrate’s reply states that the benefit of this was going to the government departments for hosting of websites/web applications. It is an ongoing service, the reply states.

Almost Rs 7 crore has been set aside for e-governance for the Directorate of Panchayats. However, the work has not yet been started as the IT department is waiting for a reply from the Directorate of Panchayats, Monserrate’s reply states.

Over Rs 1.28 crore has been sanctioned for the ongoing implementation of the e-district project which began on September 2016.

Of the 37 projects, around nine were undertaken after Rohan Khaunte took over as Minister. The rest were undertaken before that in the years 2015-16.
